Hollywood sees 12 Years A Slave share Oscar honours with Gravity

London-born director Steve McQueen's 12 Years A Slave has scooped top honours at the Oscars. The slavery drama prevented Gravity's march as it looked as if the science-fiction epic was going to sweep the board at Monday's Hollywood awards ceremony.

McQueen's movie won best film as well as honours for best adapted screenplay and best supporting actress (Lupita Nyong'o).

It's been another award-spangled night for 12 Years A Slave. The slavery drama beat off the force of Gravity to scoop two of the biggest awards at the 2014 Baftas.

Steve McQueen's '12 Years A Slave' has enjoyed another triumphant warm-up for next month's Oscars with success at the London Critics' Circle Film Awards.
